Ministries

Brother James leads the preaching ministry of GBC.  His heart's desire is to preach God's Word in the power of the Holy Spirit so that the lost are saved, the church is edified, and the Savior is glorified.

Dr. Mike Martin directs the music ministry of GBC.  The adult choir is the centerpiece of the church's music ministry.  Each Sunday they lead the church in a call to worship and special music.  They also prepare for and perform cantatas at both Easter and Christmas.  God has blessed the church with some very talented instrumentalists, including Glen Doris Buchanan (organist), Sharon Seals (keyboard), and Linda Shockley (pianist).

Not only does the Music Ministry include adult choir, but Mike also leads the handbell choir.  They have particpated in handbell festivals at Carson-Newman College, performed in sister churches, and have faithful used their talents during worship at GBC.  Come find your place in the music ministry of GBC.

Youth ministry has long been a vital ministry of GBC.  Many young people have come through the youth ministry of the church.  God has even called some of them out and is using them to preach HIs Word and minister to His people.  We hope you will allow your young person to become a part of the future of this ministry.

Sunday School is the most important smalll-group Bible ministry of our church.  Each week, adults, youth, and children alike gather for prayer and Bible-training at 9:30 am.  We currently have classes for nursery age children, younger children, pre-teens/teens and 3 adults classes.  We hope you will come and take advantage of this vital ministry of our church.

GBC is very blessed to have a vibrant nursery ministry.  Our nursery ministers to children ages newborn to 4 years old.  The nursery is directed by Allisha Johnson.  Many willing volunteers serve alongside them to insure that our smallest children are given the nurture they need during all our services of worship.

GBC has four primary mission groups - WOM, GA's, RA's and Baptist Men.  WOM is led by Sharon Seals, GA's - Rhonda Shipley, RA's-Mark Quarles and Baptist Men by Rev. Hugh Lee Simmons.  Our church has particpated in many missions endeavors. 

Around GBC, we call our senior saints Young at Heart.  God has used and continues to use this ministry in a number of ways.  First, God uses the senior adults to minister to young and old alike.  On one day you might find them stuffing shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, and on the next you could find them visiting our shut-ins.  Also God has used this ministry as a means of fellowship and friendship.

Sharon Seals leads the women's ministry at GBC.  Under her direction, our ladies have worked through a multitude of Bible studies from Beth Moore and several others.  Their Bible study times are often filled with moments of laughter, fellowship, prayer, and reflection.  Come join the women of GBC as they seek God's direction for daily life.

Rev. Hugh Lee and Peggy Simmons oversee GBC's food pantry.  The pantry is open each Wednesday from 1-2.  If you know someone who could use some assistance, please have them call the church office at 586-9322 to set up an appointment.  Donations are always accepte4d. Non-perishable items only please.
